To achieve this moody and emotional effect through portraiture, we stuck black sugar paper to the wall and used it as a backdrop to create a dark and atmospheric background. We made use of natural light coming through the window to get a shadow on the face and then the images were edited in black and white and then manipulated to adjust the brightness and contrast.
