Texture
I gave my photography students a starting brief called 'texture'. I sent them outside to capture natural textures found in the natural environment. Here are some examples of their outcome; edited in black and white, inspired by photographer Wynn Bullock.

My story...
At Northleigh House School, I teach art & photography to children who as a result of being bullied in a mainstream school setting come to us to rebuild their confidence and return to learning in a therapeutic and safe environment. Located in the middle of the countryside in Warwickshire, it is a haven for our students to nurture their creativity and self esteem.
Throughout my time here I have met some of the most inspiring young people. I have seen them flourish from the shy and vulnerable to the happy and ambitious people they are now. Through art and photography, our students have learnt how to express themselves in a creative way. They also have the opportunity to gain qualifications in GCSE Art & Design and I will use this blog as a platform to showcase all of their great work!

Easter
Before we broke up for the easter holidays today we did an easter themed photography project. Capturing the spring flowers, this student has used a technique called 'filling the frame'.

Introduction
Northleigh House School was established in 2012 to address the growing need for a safe, calm and progressive learning environment for secondary aged children who, mainly as a result of being bullied or perceiving themselves to have been so, cannot study in a large mainstream setting.By “doing things differently" we are able to help each young person to regain their inner confidence and to begin, again, to trust other people. We promote a culture where every member of the school, whether student or staff, is valued, respected and plays a vital role in the development of Northleigh's community. As we are a small school, based in a beautiful country house, we have the freedom to enable each student to develop in whatever way suits them. The under-pinning atmosphere at Northleigh is one of absolute positive regard for every student: kindness, inclusion and respect for each individual's differences.
As a charity, we heavily rely on donations to continue with our fantastic work. We need funds to be able to provide much needed learning recourses for our children. Without your donations we would not be able to continue with this unique school setting.
